Itai Dzamara, a journalist and human rights activist, led peaceful protests against the deteriorating political and economic environment in Zimbabwe. His protest had him harrased, assaulted and arrested by Zimbabwe Republic Police several times.
On March 9, 2015, at about 10 a.m., five unidentified men dragged Dzamara out of the barbershop in the Glenview, Harare, the capital. He was handcuffed, bundled into a white pickup truck, and driven off. No one has seen or heard from him since.
